Roland R. Wright Air National Guard Base -- MSgt Brad “Mayhem” Harris started his career in the Utah Air National Guard as an Aircrew Life Support specialist, then cross-trained to Airfield Management before becoming a KC-135R Stratotanker Boom Operator in the 191st Air Refueling Squadron.
The U.S. Air Force is currently focusing on building the Multi-capable Airman, a concept that involves training Airmen to accomplish tasks outside of their core Air Force Specialty.
Mayhem is a Multi-Capable Airman. The first ever KC-135R Boom Operator to graduate from both the USAF Weapons School Advanced Instructor Course, USAF Test Pilot School Enlisted Test Professional Course.
“Ever since I was little, I wanted to fly,” said Harris. “So being able to serve my country while fulfilling that dream is more than amazing.”
He was trained in the tactics to provide offensive tanker employment and defensive procedures ensuring the survivability of the KC-135R.
As an Enlisted Test Professional, MSgt Harris offers critical insight to developmental and operational tests, ensuring warfighters receive the right equipment they need.
MSgt Harris is also a Boom Operator Instructor, Evaluator and NCOIC of Aircrew Training and Tactics. He provides initial training for new booms, upgrade training for instructors and tactics for all aircrew. As an Enlisted Test Professional, Mayhem was instrumental in the recent upgrades to the KC-135R including; Real Time In-Cockpit and HVAA Pod development.
Harris goes on to say, “Serving with my fellow Airman is the greatest part of my job. Seeing what my colleagues are capable of and completing our daily missions is what makes being in the Utah Air National Guard worth it.”
