ROLAND R. WRIGHT AIR NATIONAL GUARD BASE, Utah -- In a significant assumption of command and promotion ceremony held on 14 October 2023, Colonel G. Chris Buckner was promoted to the rank of Brigadier General and assumed command of the Utah Air National Guard, also serving as the Assistant Adjutant General for Air of the Utah National Guard.
Tracing back on his military journey, Buckner initially joined the Utah Air National Guard in 1993. Demonstrating exemplary skills and commitment, he attained his commission through the Air Nation Guard’s Academy of Science in 1999. Over the years, he has played a pivotal roles in various capacities, enriching the force with his knowledge, experience and vision. Before this promotion, he served as the Vice Wing Commander of the 151st Air Refueling Wing.
Expressing his gratitude, Buckner stated, “I am honored and humbled to serve in this capacity. I look forward to the future of the Utah Air National Guard, who will continue to provide a ready and reliable force to the state and the nation.”
During the ceremony, Buckner's wife, Lisa, and kids Ashlee, Ty, and Kevin were invited on stage to pin on Buckner’s new rank.
Outgoing commander, Maj. Gen. Daniel Boyack, the Adjutant General Utah National Guard, voiced his confidence in Buckner’s leadership. “I can not think of anyone else that is more prepared and that I trust to lead the Utah Air National Guard than, Col. Buckner. The Airmen of the Utah Air National Guard lead in the Air Force, they don’t sit ack and wait for others to come up with answers, they lead the way to solutions.”
Buckner now serves as the Commander of the Utah Air National Guard & Assistant Adjutant General-Air. He is responsible for the command, control and operations of plans and programs affecting more than 1,400 Utah Air National Guard personnel.
