Members of the Diversity Council recently attended the Martin Luther King Commission hosted the Martin Luther King Jr. Human Rights Commission 25th Anniversary Celebration Luncheon at the Cultural Celebration Center in West Valley, Utah, in collaboration with the Utah Office of Ethnic Affairs. The ANG Diversity Council has partnered with the MLK Commission and the Utah Office of Ethnic Affairs. "We are exploring the ways in which we can assist them in their community needs and the ways in which they can help make our diverse community on the base better," said Chief Master Sgt. Michael Edwards, the Human Resources Advisor for the Utah Air National Guard, who attended the event. The keynote speaker for the luncheon was Mark Shurtleff, the Attorney General for the State of Utah. Shurtleff spoke on the necessity of accepting all people for who they are and how the acceptance of each individual can only make our communities, state and country stronger. "He did a really good job of describing the importance of diversity and accepting other people," said Chief Edwards. Chief Edwards also explained that the Diversity Council plans on being involved in more community events. "We're going to try to attend as many as possible to get the image of the Guard out the communities and increase our relationship," he added.
