Annual ‘Safety de Mayo’ celebration to be held May 18 Published May 2, 2009 By Master Sgt. John Crow 151st ARW/SE SALT LAKE CITY -- The 151st Air Refueling Wing Safety Office will host the second annual "Safety de Mayo" celebration on May 18 to kick off the Air Force's "101 Critical Days of Summer" campaign. The Air Force-wide campaign begins Memorial Day and lasts through Labor Day weekend, and is designed to raise awareness of mishaps that are more likely to occur during the summer months. All Utah Air Guard members are encouraged to participate in the Safety de Mayo's activities. The day will start out with base clean up and a required briefing starting at the dining facility at 11 a.m. Everyone is invited to stay for a $1 Mexican food lunch. Weather permitting, the remainder of the day will be reserved for activities and prizes to include: human foosball, jousting, and Airmen on giant tricycles wearing "fatal vision" goggles. The success of this campaign is dependent upon all involved: commanders, supervisors and members. It's important to be aware of potential hazards associated with the summer activities. Ultimately, it will be up to the individual to ensure they are well rested, use alcohol responsibly and use proper personal protective equipment.
