130th EIS receives Outstanding EI Unit Award Published Dec. 6, 2008 By Senior Airman Ashley Hood 130th Engineering Installation Squadron BALTIMORE, Md. -- The National Guard Bureau and the National Guard Association of the United States named the 130th Engineering Installation Squadron, Utah Air National Guard, as the 2008 Outstanding Engineering Installation unit on September 21. The announcement and presentation of the award were made by General Craig R. McKinley, Chief, National Guard Bureau at the 2008 NGAUS general conference here. The 130th has supported several national missions installing fiber optic cable and equipment for Predator Unmanned Aerial Vehicle missions for the operational theater. They were selected by the Defense Information System Agency to help with the transition of bringing DoD telecommunications into the digital age. "It has been an excellent year for the 130th," remarked Lt. Col. Jack Wall, 130th EIS commander. "We have been very busy supporting our mission with a variety of projects, each of which has had mission critical significance. Members of the 130th are frequently deployed to work on some of the most critical engineering and installation requirements in the U.S. Air Force." While successfully completing national missions throughout the year, members of the 130th traveled overseas to assist other bases to meet their missions. In Portugal, squadron members replaced inoperable copper cable and restored telecommunications, alarms and phones, empowering mission essential requirements and critical life-saving responsibilities to be met. In England, the 130th documented underground communications infrastructure, creating a command and control, communications, computer and intelligence system blue print design for integrating into a common installation picture for local planners in U.S Air Forces in Europe and the U.S. Air Force.
